Thankful Thursday

1. Roomies! That's right it's plural. Michelle and I had talked about getting a third roomie, and it has kind of just happened for us. Katie will be moving in this weekend, which will save me some green! YAY! And we all hung out a little last night and got along really well....it's gonna be super fun!

2. Work. Since I will be saving some money with another roomie, and still working at Bart's -- I am hoping that I will be able to cut down my hours at Bart's. It will be so nice to not HAVE to have a second job. Money is such a burden in so many ways to so many people. I am beyond blessed right now!

3. Book Club! We had our first meeting last night and it was SOOOOOOOO much fun. I really enjoyed hearing everyone's different angles on things that happened in the book. Next we are reading Captivating.

ANSWER...

In their car. Now I can honestly say that I have never found my remote in my car? Have you?

Ten on Tuesday...(minus four)

1. I miss working with kids. That's about all I can say right now. My mom and I went to dinner last night and got to talking about my transition from the church, it's been hard. I know that God is good and He isn't finished yet but it's been hard. I thought I had moved on from it but last night I was reminded.

2. Some girlfriends and I have started a blog. It's a greaty daily look at women at various places in their lives and what God is working on inside and through them. Check it out! http://www.glowministry.blogspot.com/

3. I will openly admit that I am a radio game junkie. I like to win stuff! Yesterday I got an email that I had won a CD Prize pack from Willie1035.com. My new free CD collection includes: Martina McBride, LeeAnn Womack, Blake Shelton, and Jimmy Wayne. :)

4. I am super tired. The last two nights I have stayed up too late. Ready to get a good, early night's rest tonight.

5. Does anybody know how to link to a post within your blog? I want to use this on the GLOW ministry blog but don't know how to do it. We just wrote a "Meet the Bloggers" post and I want people to be able to access it without having to scroll through all posts. Maybe I don't even know how to ask my question....but HELP!

6. It's poopy outside. I don't like crappy rainy weather, it makes me feel real tired. And really it's just misting - is this what produce at the store feels like?

I seriously can't come up with four more. It's a busy week so sorry six on Tuesday it is!

Thankful Thursday

1. Warm Weather. I actually talked about getting outside and doing some yard work this weekend and I am looking forward to it. A little time outside with Tucker and the sunshine!

2. My family and friends that are supporting me in Relay for Life. I have already raised over $150 ... what's that? you want to donate too? AWESOME! I have conveniently placed the link below:

3. My job, I work alongside a lot of people who are working directly with folks being hurt by the current economy. Each day I am reminded that it could have very easily been me just a few short months ago. But Praise God! it wasn't. Not only did I get a job when I desperately needed one...I got one I really like!

Nope, Nope, and Nope...

No one got it this week. In all fairness this was a VERY open ended question, I was thinking about giving a hint but really that would have totally given it away. The answer was: Math Class. I would have totally been a statistic!

Ten on Tuesday...

1. Wilson Way Back Weekend was so awesome! We had a blast, and got lots of work done too! Grandma and Grandpa will be amazed. We not only built the pier but the girls weeded, raked, yanked up ivy (that we are not 100% Grandma wanted gone - but it's too late now!), and laughed. Man did we laugh, we enjoyed ourselves, and at the end it was clear, through my dad that it meant a lot to the older generations.

2. Brett and Mike were the team that ordered the needed materials. This is Friday night, Brett and company wanted to make sure they were organized and all set up to work on Saturday.

3. Here is Drew...it's weird cause he looks like he knows what he's doing. The guys worked on the pier pieces for most of the day on Saturday...in all seriousness they got it down to a pretty cool science.
4. Speaking of working with a purpose, the girls jumped on board with my plan, I dubbed it - the No Leaf Left Behind Project. We made sure that all the landscaping was cleaned up. It was hard work but made a huge difference! 5. Here is RJ testing out the new pier pieces!

Installation and RJ still testing. Doesn't it look great!?

6. Just an Ava update - yes, she is still the cutest baby ever!
7. Here's is the Wilson cousins, on the finished product...

8. Mike and I went to see Hank Jr. this weekend. It was awesome, we went to the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN for the show. Since it was Wilson Way Back Weekend, I wanted to make sure I left in time to go home and get ready for the concert. I left in time to get to Mike's at about 4 pm. We had gone through the whole time change discussion and decided 4 was the latest we could leave for a 7.30 (their time) concert start. We thought we were running just a little late, so we rushed to leave. Then as we were driving into Western IN we looked at Mike's cell phone only to realize that it was still 4.30 (because the time had changed) and we were a little more than an hour away. It is really hard to explain this story and I feel like it's not nearly as hilarious as we thought it was in the moment. We laughed at ourselves for not being able to figure out the time change....but also proud of ourselves because it was as if we had actually planned to eat dinner. WE WERE STARVING! 9. So....we get to the casino (figured it was just easier to get there and eat so we knew where we were going) and walk around - it's beautiful! - checking out all the restaraunts. We were both so hungry. The first place we saw was a buffet and it had a super long line. So we decided to go see the others choices. We walked around and saw an expensive steak places, little italian places, and a sandwich joint. The sandwiches didn't look very filling and seemed like a lot of money. So we decided, let's just go to the buffet, it may be a little more but at least we can eat ourselves silly. SO...we walk back to the buffet and get in the super long line. As we wait we were talking to some people in front of us who vacation to the lakes, where we live (we are so lucky!) and he said he overheard someone say that this buffet was $35 a person!

WHAT...$35 a person...for one meal...and I thought Golden Corral was bad.

When Mike first heard this he devised a plan, where I went in and ate, then snuck food out to him. Finally, we decided (well I decided, Mike still isn't sure about this choice) if we got out of line it would be too late to get something else. So we sucked it up and ate at the most ridiculously priced buffet ever. Did you know if you pay $35 dollars in a buffet, your diet magically disappears and you get to eat anything you want, well it's true. I wasn't about to pay that much for a salad...no we had crab legs, sushi, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp...oh, just thinking about it makes me so hungry! Oh and Bocephus was incredible in concert, something else incredible??? The number of mullets I saw that night :) Mike and I had so much fun laughing at: ourselves not being able to make simple time changes, $35 buffets, mullets, the different ages of people we saw at the concert (I am pretty sure there was a 75ish year old woman there, with a neck brace...oh yeah and three daughters with mullets...seriously).

10. So this weekend I got sunburnt outside...and this morning I saw snow on my windshield. It is April in Indiana after all!

What, I can still be Thankful on Friday...

1. Good friends. I had an evening of reconnecting with a great friend. Some things have changed in our lives and our friendship is having to bend, but it will! That's what best friends are for!

2. 70 degree weather, the weekend off work, lots of family coming into town, and Hank Jr. tickets - sounds like a great time! Oh yeah and it's my life! :)

3. God is so good! I don't think that requires any explanation, it's TRUTH!

If I had a prize...

ANGIE would win it. Altough I am not quite sure that making 4 guesses is ligit. The answer is apologize...this should be a reminder to all of us, whether single or married.

Wacky Wednesday Trivia

Married couples do this twice as much as singles?
Keep in mind that I strive to have a clean blog, so you should know that your first thought is probably wrong. But let me know your guess!

Ten on Tuesday...

1. Last week was a crazy one, sorry I haven't blogged for a week! We had Friday off so that seemed to have made the work week go so much faster.

2. Friday I went to the oral surgeon, after 3 hours in the chair and minor surgery....THE CROWN HAS BEEN PLACED! Now of course, it is temporary, it's just my luck. But they want to make sure that the gum heals before they attach it permanently. I have an appointment April 29th to have it finished. Praise God...for it being (almost) done and for vicodin! :)

3. Easter was great! I went to NWUMC, so Mom & Dad would have 3 of their 4 kids with them at church. Then Mike and I went to my parents for lunch. Mom threw a great little party: Grandma, Pap, Lex, Drew, Mom, Dad and Shirley (Mom's friend from church) were all there. Judo made chicken and noodles....so delicious. Since I was taking pain meds, I basically ate and slept. Best Easter Ever! It was nice to relax and remember the reason we were together: AN EMPTY GRAVE!

4. This coming weekend is Pier Pong, AKA cousins weekend at the cottage! I am so pumped to spend the weekend with family -- we are going to build a new pier for the cottage and get some Spring Cleaning done. It seems like the weather is going to cooperate very well and we have some fun planned in there too!

5. Life changes...People change...God, well He NEVER changes. What a blessing that is?! And man I have been reminded of this lately. I have felt different parts of my life being ripped out from under me and have had to rest solidly in the hands of my Heavenly Father. I am trusting that He knows exactly what He is doing. I know that in Him I can become just who He had in mind.

6. Angie's questions... uh, of course I would love a green chair that I don't have to bring a blanket to cover because it's so dirty; I don't know why you didn't know about my blog, my bad?; When Mike isn't around I: read, workout, help with Women's Ministries at NWUMC, spend time with my sweet roomie, book club, spoil my pets, blog stalk, talk to long distance friends from college; it is easy to understand why both you and Kayla love Brothers & Sisters, it is such an amazing show!; if I ever see something that you need :) I will do my best to remember that you are open to random gifts.

7. Mike and I are going to see Hank Jr. this weekend! I am pumped to see a classic country artist :) Should be tons of hillbilly fun!

8. I have actually been really busy at work lately. It's nice, I feel like I am accomplishing lots!

9. Seriously, I am tired of rainy, windy, cold weather. Can we get some summer around here...I would even be happy with some warm spring weather.

10. After a blog discussion last night with some girlfriends, I decided to see if I could get most of my readers to post a comment. If I had something to give away, I would...but try not to get too excited Shannon, I don't. So just let me know you are out there in the cyber world. And you should post a question so I can have something to post about next Tuesday.

Ten on Tuesday...

1. My new favorite yogurt is Key Lime Pie: it tastes delicious and is a pretty shade of green.

2. It snowed yesterday and is trying to snow today....and it's April. That's really not ok!

3. I have the cutest pets in the entire world! Phoebe(3), Tucker(2), and Izzy(2). Technically, Isabelle is Lexi's cat but since for the two years she has been alive she has lived with me for the better part of 18 months, I pay for her, and deal with her kittenisms that tend to knock stuff over; I'm gonna say she's mine.

Phoebe and Tucker

Izzy

4. Some favorites: the color Yellow, Fridays, Charlotte's Web, To Kill A Mockingbird, Hoosiers (the movie, needed to clarify that one!! and I guess for the record BOILER UP!), Brothers and Sisters (the TV show although my brothers and sisters are some favorites of mine, too), Eagles (greatest band of all time!), Sugarland (current musical obsession!), getting someone a present that I know they will love

5. Some not-so-favorites: Getting up in the morning, cleaning paint brushes after painting, driving long distances alone, double standards, entire groups of people that want to pretend that something didn't happen and everything is fine - when we all know the truth (generally speaking, of course), you know when you have a bunch of weekends free and then there is one weekend that you have to pick from two things, yeah I don't like that...

6. Some dreams: SUMMER - I can't remember does it actually get hot here - it's been so long, having a family, to be a good steward of my personal finances, a quiet tropical vacation

7. I hope you are all spending some time this week getting ready to CELEBRATE this weekend...too often we get wrapped up in family, food and scheduling plans and we totally forget why we are doing those things. Christ died on the cross for all of us, and being the Awesome God HE is...He didn't stop there, HE rose from the dead to conquer death. If that isn't something to celebrate, I guess I don't really understand "celebration".

8. Michelle cut my hair. Really that's about all I can say for that, except I LOVE IT!

9. I realize that if you struggle to think of ten things a week about your life ...that other people might care about -- you really need to get out more. I mean I can think of some other things but I am just not ready to lay them all out here yet. Maybe someday.

10. I'm aware that I pretty much made 9 and 10 the same but apparently for me 10 is a lot, so we are going to try something new...if you have a question or topic (appropriate of course) for me to post on please leave it in the comments or email it to me - monica-wilson@hotmail.com

Started out a frustrating Friday...

Well for the 4th time in a month, this morning I heard the words, "Sorry Monica, not today. We are gonna have to wait." I wanted to ball these words up and shove them right back into my dentists mouth, where for all I care they could stay forever. Instead of more penicillin, this time he is referring me back to my oral surgeon. I should find out Monday or Tuesday when I can get an appointment with him.

When I left the office, I was telling Mike all the frustrations that this caused...money (lots of money), having to take off work, next Friday will be three years I have been waiting, the list goes on...

THEN -
Mike was of course amazingly supportive and tried to make me happy. Then I talked to my dad and he said, "It's just money, it's not your fault to take off more work, and at least you are healthy...it's frustrating and depressing but it's not terrible."

I have tried to spend the rest of the day in a manner of thankfulness. So many people complain (including myself this morning) about things that are frankly insignificant. And trust me, I could go on and on about why this dental visit is far from insignificant. But in the scheme of my entire life this is just a little thing. Whenever I get frustrated about it, I like to remind myself that one day (hopefully soon) I will completely forget the things that have been an unending bother to me the last three years. Then I will try to remember what this time was like.

I have sat at my desk and been thankful, so thankful, for a job. I drove my car to get an oil change and spent the driving time thanking God for a nice car and the money (barely, but it was there) to take care of that car. I have been talking to Michelle and Trinia lots this afternoon, and thanking God for good friends. Through email the Wilson cousins are planning a work weekend at the cottage, it sounds like business but more fun than anything...they make me thankful for my family and good laughs. We will have lots of fun, delicious beverages, great music, and maybe get a little work done that weekend. :)

I am thankful...so thankful for the blessings I have and I know when it's time this present trouble shall also pass....is it wrong to hope that it's next week? I would even go to the oral surgeon's office tomorrow if he happened to be working (HA! yeah right!)...I guess for now it's more patience and thankfulness!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for:

1. Mike coming home today. He has been in Pennsylvania since Tuesday.

2. My job. When I watch the news and read the paper, I realize just how smoothly I sailed through a really tough economic times. I lost my job in December, and PRAISE GOD I was hired on January 12. It has been a very humbling and trusting in God season of my life.

3. Laughter. We crack up all the time here at United Way...and I love it! It had been a long time since I enjoyed work in the day to day, and the atmosphere here is so great!
